DHAKA: 40,000 smart NID cards will be distributed on the Victory Day (Dec 16) across the country and priority will be given to freedom fighters, said National Identification Registration Division Director General Brig Gen Mohammad Saidul Islam.
NID DG held a press conference at Election Commission building on Sunday (December 15).
NID DG said: “We have taken special initiative to honor freedom fighters. Smartcards have already been reached in 519 areas of the country. These standard national identity cards will be handed over to them at the function of the day on Monday.”
He said many freedom fighters have already collected these cards. We give it to those who have not got it yet. However, those who will not be able to participate in the program, the cards will be given on priority basis from the office of the Election Officer of the concerned upazila and thana.
In response to a question from the reporters, he said it cannot be said how many freedom fighters are getting this card, but we have printed 40,000 smart cards.
He said this activity would continue. We will provide the smart card as per the list of the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs.
